Iran seizes ship under court order

Iranian Navy seized the Maersk Tigris Tuesday under court order from Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization. This was originally reported as US flagged vessel but later turned out to be from the Marshall Islands and the Pentagon reported no US crew were aboard.

“The ship is a trade vessel and has been seized by the Iranian navy,” said Fars (Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency), citing what it called an informed source.

“The ship was seized after a relevant court order was issued for its confiscation,” the source was quoted as saying, referring to differences between the ports organization and the vessel’s owner. It did not identify the owner.

The US has sent a destroyer and aircraft to the region to monitor the situation…..
